Whereas it may seem this is long overdue, it is actually right on time for its new official release time. TRIP Students:
Last year we announced our PhD program in Translation Studies, the first in the country. There are currently seven Ph.D. students enrolled with TRIP: Lauro Amorim (Translation and the Poetics of Identity), Ida Amelia Jones (Translation and Bias), Edgar Moros (Translation Pedagogy) Marella Feltrin-Morris (Translation of Edmondo De Amicis's Amore e ginnastica ), Ben Van Wyke (Translation Metaphorics), Christine Hyun (Evaluating Literary Translation), and, joining us in the fall, Erin Riddle . This year we are pleased to announce that, at the beginning of the Spring 2006 semester, Harpur College approved our proposal for a Minor in Translation Studies, and we hope to welcome our first students next year.

TRIP was directly involved in organizing two academic events in this year and a half:

Dean's Workshop Lecture Series, Fall 05-Spring 06:
Thanks to a grant from Harpur College we held a series of lectures entitled "Translators Theorizing on Their Craft." The Binghamton faculty and students who presented work were: Martin Bidney, Carrol Coates, Luiza Moreira, Marella Morris, and Ben Van Wyke. The special guests included were: Alexis Levitin (SUNY Plattsburg) , John Milton ( University of Sao Paulo , Brazil ) , Lawrence Venuti ( Temple University ) , and Sergio Waisman ( George Washington University ) .

1st Annual Binghamton-Amherst Graduate Student Conference, April 29-May 1, 2005:
In Spring of 2005, Maria Tymoczko and Edwin Gentzler came to Binghamton with translation students from the University of Amherst, Massachusetts, for the first annual joint conference of graduate students from the two schools. Our participants were: Rosemary Arrojo, Josep Davila-Montes, Marella Feltrin-Morris, Marilyn Gaddis Rose, Maria Constanza Guzman, Ida Amelia Jones, Charlie King, Fatima Muhaidat, Tarek Shamma, Ben Van Wyke.

Rosemary Arrojo and Marilyn Gaddis Rose participated in a conference in honor of Hans Vermeer's 75 th birthday in Magdeburg , Germany . Rosemary Arrojo was also invited to present a paper at the ICLA Conference in Venice (Fall 05) as well as one of the key note speeches at the 2006 Congress of Translation at the University of Barcelona (May). In addition, she taught seminars at Bogazici University in Istanbul (Dec. 2005), and at the University Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona , Spain (May 2006). In September, 2005, Marilyn Gaddis Rose was in Monterey , California for a special invitation workshop at the Foreign Language Defense Institute, and gave one of the opening addresses at the 50 th Anniversary Celebration of the Monterrey Institute.
